Starbucks soy milk chai tea latte health information

8th July 2006

My sister told me she was trying to cut out Starbucks for her diet. Like me, her favorite Starbucks drink is the Tazo chai tea latte with soy milk. I’m not too worried about calories since I actually want to gain weight. But I don’t eat junk food; I need muscle mass, not fat rolls.

So what is Starbucks Tazo Chai tea latte? 350 calories of not junk food (this is 24 fluid ounce or venti size). 35 fat calories seems better than your average junk food and .5 grams of saturated fat isn’t too bad. 125 mg of sodium might be bad; I’ll have to check on that. I know that 65 grams of sugar is less than ideal, but it doesn’t seem too bad.

I have no illusions that Starbucks will help me put on muscle. The chai I’m talking about has more carbohydrates than protein, about 5 times more. But it does seem like a better option than many other treats. For more information on Starbucks health and nutrition: http://www.starbucks.com/retail/nutrition_beverage_detail.asp

Seriously. Chai tea is my one indulgences. I drink them often. I wonder if they have any health benifits. I know that they are high in carbs, which is not good and the tea is not actually tea. Is it? It’s some type of flavored syrup. Well I guess I answered my own question about Chai health benifits. What about caffeine. Does it contain much?
